FETUS WINS HOME OPENER!

HALVERSON DELIVERS FETUS, FIRST WIN

Whitewater,WI- Adidas Fetus opened their season with a modified roster and a big win. Missing captain Barry Holloway and defenseman Ben Baker the team called up defenseman Drew Shea and pulled defenseman Tom Bergen off the waiver wire. Luckily their opponent, The Fighting Chops, were unable to muster up a full roster and played shorthanded with a one-man disadvantage the whole game. In a post game interview defenseman Eric Dombeck noted, “Thank god, they were good shorthanded, we may have had a tough time if they had a full team.”

Addias struggled from the start. Allowing a quick first period goal before Dombeck’s shot from the outside tied it up. As the second period finished Adidas found themselves in a 1-2 fix. Losing by a goal, to a team shorthanded, wasn’t how they planned to finish the night. So in the third period Adidas Fetus let loose a 4-0 scoring frenzy which was started by the rookie Ross Halverson and the always clutch Matt Haas netted the third goal that proved to be the game winner.

In the final minutes, down 3-2, the Chops removed all the stops and started a high pressure back check from their defensemen leading to a breakaway for Halverson who made a spectacular move. Faking the shot and hiding the puck behind his stick caused the Chop's goalie to dive and make the save…on a shot that never came, allowing Halverson to top-shelf the puck into a vacant net. Dombeck later stated, “It was something out of a Mighty Ducks movie.” After winning the next face-off forward Adam Bublitz put the final shot behind the demoralized Chop’s netminder and sealed the victory for Fetus.

It should also be noted that Fetus’s biggest free agent move, their starting goalie, wasn’t available to play. With back-up Barry Holloway also gone it was up to third string Andrew Dupree, who hadn’t started a game since he lost his teeth to a slap shot a year ago. Dupree who pitched a shutout third period and only allowed two goals credited his defense for his productive return to goaltending.
